Activity Description

One of Panthera Africa’s main purposes is to be an educational platform where we create awareness about the conditions big cats face in captivity, and how animal welfare and enrichment plays a vital role in giving them the best captive life possible. We are a true sanctuary where no cub petting, breeding or trading takes place.

On our educational visits you have the chance of capturing photographs of the big cats in their beautiful Natural homes, and get to know about their unique stories, in addition to the important facts about the species and their different situations. We strongly believe in the importance of educating you about animal welfare and conservation, so together with a staff member you will be taken for a lovely walk whilst admiring the beautiful cats.

We ask you kindly to arrive 15 minutes prior to your visit.

We look forward to sharing our dream with you, and to introducing you to our four legged friends!

Customer Reviews

Awsome - Rodolfo

Great place, great people, great vision, great animals. Being educated on how big cats are treated in our country is harrowing but seeing the good work that is being done here makes you optimistic for the future. Keep up the great work! - Estian

Really interesting visit close to Stanford - inspirational founders rescuing and looking after big cats from around South Africa. The animals looked in great shape given some of the horrendous back stories, and Freedom was a great guide. The whole family enjoyed it! - Nick

We visited Panthera for an Educational Tour. What and eye-opening and inspiring visit! It was so encouraging to know that this remarkable facility have only the animal's best interests at heart. Our facilitator was so knowledgeable and passionate and engaging and we learnt so much about the animals themselves and the industry at large. Thank you Panthera, for the amazing work you're doing and the awareness you're spreading! - Leila

We were so glad we listened to couple of friends recommendations about visiting Panthera. Our daughter and teenage grandsons were with us on a brief visit from Wales and we wanted to take them to a meaningful wild life experience. In spite of arriving in Stanford in an early winter rain storm the day before, the sun came out next morning we arrived at Panthera - greeted by the exciting murmur of lions roaring! We were given a warm welcome by Freedom who explained why Panthera came into existence, the horrors of the so called breeding farms and the continual exploitation of Big Cats - from caracals to tigers. Most of us especially people from overseas have no idea that such practices are still going on today so it was a great eye opener. We set off on our tour to see the variety of feline "guests" enjoying the freedom of their completely natural enclosures among bushes, fynbos and shady trees. Apart from the Black Leopard who stayed firmly under cover till the sun warmed up, we were delighted to see tigers, lionesses, rare white Timbavati lions, caracals and a magnificent leopard I want to "adopt" called Gabriel. All the animals had names, all had stories which Freedom shared with us, most of them distressing and shocking which made seeing them well-fed in the protection of Panthera even more meaningful. We came away with some great photos, much to think about - a truly worthwhile experience. - Kelly
