Activity Description

Join us for a two hour excursion of play and excitement! During this unique experience you will get to work with a Panthera Africa animal keeper to create small enrichment items, which will be given to the big cats! Watch the cats run, jump and play as your handmade toys bring joy and fun to their lives. You will also get to see the implementation of a bigger enrichment that was lovingly made by our volunteers and staff members. Learn about the different types of enrichment, why we make them, and why it is so beneficial for captive big cats. Listen in awe as your passionate host takes you around the big cat enclosures and tells you their interesting and inspiring stories. Every Enrichment Visit is different, so you never know what you’re going to see!

We offer you the opportunity to experience parts of our enrichment program where you can see both big and smaller cats in action, and be able to capture these unforgettable active moments on camera!

One of Panthera Africa’s main purposes is to be an educational platform where we create awareness about the conditions big cats face in captivity, and how animal welfare and enrichment plays a vital role in giving them the best captive life possible. We are a true sanctuary where no cub petting, breeding or trading takes place.

We ask you kindly to arrive 15 minutes prior to your visit.

We look forward to sharing our dream with you, and to introducing you to our four legged friends!

Customer Reviews

After a long two years we finally got to return to South Africa and our first visit was always going to be Panthera for the Enrichment Visit. We have had the priviledge in the past to visit for the sunset visit which is an absolute must. This visit was made even more special as everyone at Panthera made it possible for us to be in involved in the 1st Enrichment Visit in 2 years which was so kind and words cannot say thank you enough. We got to work creating handmade toys made with natural materials - we filled cardboard boxes and tubes with fir cones, straw, herbs and spices. The cats have favourite smells so we sprayed the boxes with either lemon, vanilla or fly spray! Yes fly spray.Obi and Oliver love the smell that is sprayed in their enclosures to keep away parasites. Pardus the black Leopard. soon as she her gift hanging on a tree she leapt up into the air, pouncing and wrestling with her gift.We must of got her mix of spices right! We gave the tubes to Jade and Zakara (the lions who created our beautiful wall art) rolled around like typical cats playing. Arabella the beautiful tiger decided sleep was more important and left her gift for later. Amy the Caracal had a new toy and she loved it. Panthera believes in enriching their Big and Small cats lives through a variety of activities.Feeding enrichment, sensory enrichment, physical enrichment and enviromental enrichment. Visiting the sanctuary you can see immediately all the love and attention that goes into the care by everyone that it truly works and all the Cats at last have their forever loving home. Thank you Panthera Africa Big Cat Sanctuary. - Vikki & John Billington

Amazing experience. Vanessa was very friendly and knowledgable and provided us with a special 2 hour educational tour through this wonderful visit. - Gabriella De Pasquale
